Sleep deprivation and intermittent fasting
I was facing sleep deprivation since last 3 or so months, maybe due to some personal tragedies that I was going through. I noticed that some of the days(especially Monday), I was having hard time going to sleep and I was awake till 2 or 4 AM in the morning. Some nights are so worse that I can’t sleep at all. Only thing that helped is sleeping pills. However, I don’t want to be dependent on the pills. I tried many different things to get a good sleep like doing rigorous cardio exercise, not drinking tea/coffee after 4 pm, trying to read books at bed time, trying to watch TV shows, eating ice-creams, drinking milk shakes, doing muscle relaxation meditation and what not but none of them helped me. I also noticed that I was being anxious about whether I will be able to sleep tonight or not. Then, while doing the work-out at the gym, I listened a podcast of Ranveer Allahbadia with Luke Coutinho where they mentioned about doing an intermittent fasting and its benefits to our body. They also mentioned about sleep quality can also improve with the intermittent fasting. After watching this podcast, I decided to try it as an experiment. What I did is eating my lunch before 12.30 pm, drinking tea immediately (as I am a tea addict) and then not eating anything till next 8 hours. For the next 8 hours, I only drink plenty of water and nothing else. I Then I take my dinner at 8.30 pm. I try to eat as much as I can for the dinner and make sure my stomach is full. After that, I noticed that i started feeling sleepy around 10 pm. I have continued this practice since last 1 and half months and seeing a lot of improvement to my sleep pattern. I thought to share it with you in case you are facing similar issues with sleep. Try it out, you never know what will work for you.
